Top 10 Ways to See Oahu from Above, Part 1

March 03, 2017

There’s nothing quite like a bird’s eye view, and we've found some unique options that will have you exploring Oahu from a new perspective and leave you begging for more.

  • Skydive Oahu
On the North Shore of Oahu, in Waialua, there are a couple of great locations to start your skydiving adventure over some of the most beautiful landscapes you've ever witnessed, including Pearl Harbor and Waikiki. Skydiving is definitely one of the better ways to see Oahu, and shuttles are available from Waikiki daily.
  • Fly a drone camera to Dead Man’s Catwalk (Kamehame Ridge)
Dead Man’s Catwalk was once one of the most prized destinations for hikers, thrill seekers, and photographers alike, offering breathtaking views of the Oahu coastline. The catwalk refers to a cement slab, possibly a World War II-era installation, that was previously used as a launch point for hang gliders. The hiking trail has been closed since 2013, due to safety concerns, and the slab was removed in early 2016. Although you can’t hike there anymore, you can still fly a drone to the top and enjoy the amazing photographs and video it captures.
  • Night helicopter tour
Experience the most amazing views of the Honolulu skyline with a night helicopter tour that will take you over the shimmering waters of Oahu at sunset. Watch as the city comes to life, lighting up the ocean, as you travel along the South Shore, past famous Oahu landmarks like the Aloha Tower, Ala Moana Center, and the bustling hotel district in Waikiki. See Oahu’s hills and valleys from a bird’s eye view, and pass over Pearl Harbor to see the soft white lights of the USS Arizona Memorial, a gentle reminder of all the men who lost their lives there so many years ago, allowing you a moment of reflection.
  • Open door helicopter tour of the island
There is a great “doors off” ride that has a bit of nostalgia attached to it, and that is the Magnum P.I.-themed helicopter tour. Enjoy beautiful views without the obstruction of doors. See Honolulu Harbor, Aloha Tower, downtown Honolulu, and Magic Island. Continue to Waikiki beach and Diamond Head. Next, soar over  Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach, and Makapuu Point and lighthouse. North Shore beaches like Sunset, Banzai Pipeline, and Waimea Bay await, before finishing off with a full panoramic view of Pearl Harbor.
  • WWII plane flight over Pearl Harbor
For the aviation buff who wants to see Pearl Harbor in a truly unique fashion, the Pacific Warbird tour is just the ticket. This spectacular tour is a 30-minute flight in a genuine World War II SNJ-5C fighter plane, where you can see aerial views of Pearl Harbor, Wheeler Air Force Base, Kahuku, and Waikiki.
